This brief called for the design packaging for a dry food product in three varieties. I chose to design packaging for instant noodles because I wanted to design in a space where I could be playful, utilising bright colours and bold forms.
Most instant noodle packaging relies on unflattering photography of the product which in my opinion
is an indicator of cheapness and poor quality. This is exaggerated by designs which tend to be very busy and printed on cheap shiny plastic. The challenge is to stand out amongst all this visual information in a contested supermarket aisle whilst elevating the impression given to potential consumers.
As such my design strategy revolved around a distinct style of vector illustration making use of heavy lines, playful detail, and bold blocks of colour. My method involved the development of a series of elements which I composed into a cohesive whole. Additionally I chose to further differentiate this product from competitors via the use of an environmentally friendly recycled paper stock with the intention of attracting consumers on the basisĀ  of environmental conscience, but also by giving the impression of elevated quality.
