This project responded to a brief calling for the conceptualisation and design of the first edition of a magazine concerned with the theme of typography in urban contexts.
A prescribed article introduced a taxonomy of typography found in city environs; type for wayfinding, advertising, and so on. I chose to focus on the category designated “accidental type”, i.e. graffiti,
or more broadly type not intended by anyone of official standing. Following this the magazine title
I chose is “Denizen”, spotlighting type makers who are just regular inhabitants of a given city.

The spreads designed were for a theoretical first edition whose subject was the city of Sydney. The image making process organically followed from there, mashing up photography of the Sydney skyline with graffiti I had documented from the CBD.
Since the focus of the magazine was on typography strict attention was paid to typesetting, meticulously observing typographic convention down to the smallest of details, and utilising a grid structure for all typographic layouts.
