This flyer was designed to promote the theatrical production of Marat/Sade, a play about the experience of the inmates of an asylum, set against the backdrop of the French Revolution.
The flyer’s imagery revolved around a paper fold I designed to imitate the form of a slash glyph contained within the title. The fold provided an organic way to partition sections of the design, which I took advantage of to illustrate the tension between the two titular characters.
This project made use of risograph printing and as such acquainted me with the technical quirks involved in using novel printing technologies, such as setting up spot colours, colour separations and die lines. The use of risograph also presented the limitation of using only two colours throughout my design. I took advantage of the red and blue colour palette of the French tricolour to reference Marat’s bloody assassination whilst bathing which is alluded to on the poster on the reverse side of the flyer.
